What is Net Realisable Value?

Net realisable value, used in IAS 2, is the estimated selling price of inventory in the ordinary course of business less the estimated costs of completion and the costs necessary to make the sale. Inventory is carried at the lower of cost and net realisable value, so any expected loss is recognised promptly.
