What is Tracing?
A directional test where the auditor starts with a source document and follows it forward into the accounting records to confirm it was captured. Tracing from source to records mainly tests completeness, helping detect understatement where genuine transactions, such as sales or liabilities, may have been omitted from the financial statements.
