What is Debt-to-Equity Ratio?
A gearing measure calculated as total debt divided by shareholders' equity, showing how far a company is financed by borrowings relative to owners' funds. A higher ratio indicates greater reliance on debt and higher financial risk, though acceptable levels depend on the industry, the stability of earnings and prevailing interest rates.
