What is Operating Leverage?
A measure of how sensitive a company's operating profit is to changes in sales, driven by the mix of fixed and variable costs. A business with high fixed costs has high operating leverage, so profits rise sharply as sales grow but fall steeply when sales decline. It captures the risk and reward in a firm's cost structure.
